Not only dog magazines!

I've decided to spread out! I've written a lot about dogs, but no other pets. So, it's time to do something about that. I've recently had an article in Dogs Today magazine about 'Does your dog make you happy?' Well, I've realized that this article can act as a template for an article 'Does your pet make you happy?' All it needs is some more research into what the 'experts' and pet owners have to say. Below is my 'pitch' to the editor of Pet magazine...

‘Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.’
George Eliot (1819 - 1880) Poet and author.

My name is Richard Hill. I'm a 68-year-old disabled part-time writer living in Slough, Berkshire in the UK. I've written around 60 feature articles for 20 leisure and lifestyle magazines. You can see examples of my recently published articles at http://richardhill.co.uk/latest.html and earlier samples at http://richardhill.co.uk/published.html

I'd be grateful if you'd consider a feature about the happiness that owning a pet can bring us.

'Pets make life happier and become a part of the family, which can prevent isolation and feelings of depression.'

'Pets can have calming effects. Being around them helps to release the happy hormone oxytocin in the body, which also reduces levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. The routine of caring for a pet can also reduce stress and uncertainty.'

'Research has found that pets can improve our overall well-being and bring happiness to our lives. 31% of people say that pets give them a purpose in life.'

That's what my article will be about, the happiness that owning a pet can bring into our lives. With quotes from 'expert' sources and pet owners, this article will make you, and your readers, smile.

It seems that pets do indeed make us happy in many ways. Next time you talk to your pet, remember to hug them and thank them for making you happy.

I hope that you will consider my article for publication in Pets Magazine.  If you are interested, please let me know your desired word count and a deadline.

That took all morning to write, tighten up, and edit!

I'm now catching up on all the things that I'd planned to do!
